GUIDE: How To Jailbreak iPhone 3GS Firmware 4.0.1 With Pwnage Tool

After having success to run the IOS 4.0.1 on Jailbroken iPhone 3G, this is the time of 3GS, through a modified version of Pwnage Tool. It is not an official version created by Dev team but an unofficial release by Criminal90. If you are not well enough to do with it then we will recommend you don’t use it but if you want to proceed then beware as the below procedure is not applicable to Jailbroken iPhone 3GS With Spirit on 3.1.3, and with new bootrom.

Requirements:

* Modified version of PwnageTool.
* Original firmware 4.0.1 on the desktop 3GS.
* Firmware 3.1.2 Jailbroken starting with Blackra1n / Pwnage Tool (or 3.1.3 + Spirit2Pwn with Spirit), or 4.0 Firmware Jailbroken with Sn0wbreeze / Pwnage Tool.
* ITunes 9.2 installed on your Mac.
* IPhone 3G iBoot old.

Steps:
1. Launch Pwnage Tool and connect your iPhone via USB. This opens a pop-up with copyright, click OK and begin.

2. Click the Advanced Mode button and then select the iPhone 3G. Finally click the blue arrow to continue.

3. It will begin the search for the original 4.0.1 firmware inside your computer. If you have more firmware stored in the Mac, be sure to select the one that corresponds to the version 4.0.1 and then click on the arrow to continue.

4. Now click on “Global” and begin the customization:

In this screen:

* Remove the tick from “Activate the phone” if you have a 3G Italian.
* Let me turn on the “Activate Phone” if you have a 3G Stranger.

Adjust the partition size (or leave as is) Enable Baseband update only if the Italian 3G iPhone and continue.

5. Through this screen, you can add repositories in Cydia and then install all the applications you want, so that when you put custom firmware on the iPhone you already full of applications. Enter the section “Manage Sources” and add the repositories you want. Now entered into the “Download Package”, refresh and select the applications you want to install and then click “Add To Queue”. Everything will be displayed in the “Package Selection”, make sure everything is correct and click the blue arrow to continue. Obviously this step is optional, you can continue without adding any packages.

6. Remove the two cue from “Logo Ignition” and “Restore logo, so you have the original Apple or click on” Search “to replace the images, then keep clicking on the blue arrow to continue.

7. Now select the “Make Written” in red and drive. This opens a window through which you are informed that the custom firmware will be saved to your desktop.

8. At one point while the program will create the custom firmware, you will be prompted for the password of the system and the location where to save the new file. IPSW. At the end, if you haven’t change anything, it will find on your Mac Desktop.

9. At this point you will get a pop up where you will read the words: Close “PwnageTool”, put the phone in recovery mode and restore using iTunes.

10. To restore click the ALT key (Options) on your keyboard and mouse simultaneously with the Restore button in iTunes.

11. This opens a small window from which you select the custom firmware 4.0.1 you just created. iTunes will begin to extract, verify, and restore your iPhone 3G.
